Huddle named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Molly Huddle has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the 2008 USA Women's 10 km Championship Monday in Boston, Mass. The event was hosted by the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women.

A standout while at Notre Dame, Huddle outsprinted Ethiopian Aziza Aliyu down the final stretch to win the open race and the USA Women's 10 km Championship in 32 minutes 51 seconds. Aliyu was the runner-up in 32:52 and Amy Rudolph was the second American across the finish line in 33:04.

Now in its seventh year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
